Is your ring giving you a rash?

Why do I get a rash on my finger when wearing my ring?

We've all been there - the one moment your ring is fine and before you know it, a rash develops on your finger.

Sometimes it happens because you are allergic to the rhodium plating, the metal that is used to make white gold shiny. Remember gold is yellow so it needs to be alloyed with a white metal to give us white gold. To hide the yellow base colour, we have to rhodium plate the jewellery. (More about this in a future post).

Before you blame the plating however, consider the following... when washing our hands, we hardly ever take off our rings. Great idea for the times we live in but  moisture and soap get trapped between the ring and the skin and this makes for a damp environment that germs love! This can become a big problem, especially in summertime in areas where the weather can become humid.

We hope this helps clear up your rash!
